New England Trading manage the install, release and maintenance of demountable buildings for schools within the NSW Department of Education and Communities.
A system was required to track the details of each project including the details of the demountable, assigned contractor, quoted costs (including electronic approval by several parties),
tracking of authorisation paperwork, invoicing and detailed reporting functions.
Users requiring access to the system are spread across NSW and require access to the system both from fixed and mobile connections. PMP Design recommended a fully web based system utilising secured login and role based authorisation to manage differing information availability to different access levels.
In addition to the development of the system, a large amount of data previously stored in spreadsheet format had to be analysed and manipulated prior to loading into the new database.
During initial requirements analysis, PMP Design quickly identified that the system as envisaged was likely to require many more features in the future. We recommended that additional time be spent on ensuring the foundations of the system were designed in such a way that potential new features could easily be added without having to build large parts of the system again.
Within a few months of release, changes in Department of Communities protocols required that major changes be made to the system to accomodate these new requirements. Fortunately the system had been designed to be very flexible and the financial and time savings during this update far outweighed the savings that would have been made if the initial system had been built in a less flexible manner.
